Who is Ian Kelley?
I am a cook, Just a really good American cook. I started out working at McDonald’s when I was fourteen, owned my own restaurant in several locations in my early twenties and worked in many kitchens through the years. The standard American diet has always been my specialty, meat and potatoes, hamburgers, pizza, steaks, pot roast, turkey dinners, macaroni and cheese, spaghetti and meatballs, lasagna, chocolate chip cookies , apple pie and don’t forget breakfast. My true calling is short order breakfast cooking, I can go toe to toe with the best line man flipping eggs and slinging hash. Through twenty years of professional cooking and food purchasing I have developed a keen ability to judge food quality and freshness.
After recovering from alcoholism in 1999 I became very excited about health, fitness and bodybuilding. Eventually I found myself as the chef for a drug rehab in the mountains of Vermont with a willingness to help others and give the gift of sobriety that was given to me. I took a college course on nutrition and became a certified personal trainer never questioning what I was taught. Going to the gym, Lifting weights and trying different supplements and protein powders became a big part of my life. I accepted a position as Health and Wellness instructor and began lecturing clients on nutrition, driving home the importance of a solid foundation of whole grains, dairy and of course the importance of the food guide pyramid.
As a health and nutrition enthusiast and an avid bodybuilder I started to search for the truth about food, nutrition and health so I could pass it along in my lectures and use the knowledge to develop my own physique. As a result I have done intensive research on health, diet and supplements. What I found out was that information was often conflicting and just did not seem right. What I found out was that all nutrition facts presented by the media, government and health, diet and fitness industries were actually just opinions that they usually later would change and never apologize for being dead wrong. I could not understand why the government pushed cereals, grains and dairy products so heavily as healthful choices. The food guide pyramid just did not make sense I started to get an uneasy feeling that something was not quite right but I just could not put my finger on it.
One day I had an “A-Ha moment” where all the pieces of the puzzle fell into place and I felt like I could see clearly what was the TRUTH. My book The Organic Body is the product of that profound life-changing experience.
What I believe today is controversial because it goes against what supplement and food companies want you to believe. Now it turns out that I am not selling any products, protein powders or supplements only my opinion on what is and works the best based on my own research and experiences. So why should you listen to me instead of doctors, scientists and masters of chemistry?
Because my opinions and research are not biased from commercial interest. My information is not just advertising in disguise and attempts to sell you expensive, unhealthy and ineffective supplements like the muscle magazines and most diet and fitness books.
Most health experts and media sources provide biased information bought and paid for by the food and supplement industry. I do not think there is anything wrong with selling products and receiving endorsements for products, people and ideas that we are passionate about. All I am saying is to be aware that there is a lot of deception and misinformation in the food, health and supplement industries. I make no claims that my recommended foods or supplements will cure any disease or guarantee you any health benefits. These are only my opinions. I am a Chef and Health advocate researching and reporting the truth about food, health, fitness and nutrition so I can use it in my bodybuilding and pass it along to others. Find out what food and supplement companies are hiding!
